Welcome to the
Workshop and Restoration page,
On here you can see what is currently being
worked on..
Linda

This is our long term restoration project. Linda (Formerly Charles) was taken out of service in late 2003 for a leaking foundation ring in the boiler. The boiler was condemned and a new boiler was built for Linda. Linda will be completely overhauled, the chassis will have all it's bearings and bushes replaced, all the rods will have new bushes and the chassis will be completely repainted. A new grate and ash pan will also be made for Linda as the ash pan has rusted away. Linda's saddle tank will also be repainted back into her original Penrhyn livery, the tank will also receive some minor attention. The pipe work will all be renewed during the overhaul. Before Linda can re enter service, she will be fitted with a vacuum ejector and have a new tender made that is similar to Charles' (Our other Penrhyn Hunslet), that will be in keeping with the traditional Hunslet style.

Geraldine
Geraldine is a 0-4-0 Wren locomotive owned by John Wickham who is one of our members, she ran here for our visiting locomotives day and ended up with one of her crankpins turning in the wheel. She will be stripped down and have the crankpin re-set in the wheel, also at the same time she will have a full chassis overhaul, renewing all the connecting rod and coupling rod bushes, new brake shoes and new axle bushes.

John has been removing all the valve gear over the past few weeks and we lifted the loco and dropped the wheel-sets out on Sunday 10th. The loco is now on a wagon so we can still move it about in the workshop. The axle-boxes were found to be worn, so the wheels need to be pressed off the axles to allow replacement of the axle bushes.

She's passed her boiler exam, and to celebrate, she ran on the narrow gauge gala along with Charles.
The boiler is on the frames, pipe work connected and she looks like a locomotive again.. Amazing how much work you can achieve in a few hours.. Boiler test is Friday 18th May then she should be out for our narrow gauge day..
The boiler is back, and fitted to the frames, the pipe work will be connected in readiness for her boiler test in a couple of weeks..
