The Rheidol

Rheidol is a powerful 2-6-2 tender loco, loosely based on a Vale of Rheidol and a mainline loco. It is finished in a splendid green livery, lined in yellow and is a nice powerful loco to drive. Rheidol was taken out of service due to having a cracked tube. Work planned to be done to this locomotive includes, having a re-tube and having vacuum brakes fitted.

Latest News on the Rheidol Project
(Last Updated 10/11/07)

Has had the springing re-jigged on the loco so she sits parallel and has even more tractive effort than before.

Now finished off, she's back in service.

Cladding the boiler has been completed and the last decorative cladding plates are being re-fitted along with the boiler bands.

All the tanks and cab are off (again!) and the boiler decorative cladding and insulation is being fitted.

She's passed her boiler exam, and to celebrate, she ran on the narrow gauge gala along with Charles.

The boiler is on the frames, pipe work connected and she looks like a locomotive again.. Amazing how much work you can achieve in a few hours.. Boiler test is Friday 18th May then she should be out for our narrow gauge day..

The boiler is back, and fitted to the frames, the pipe work will be connected in readiness for her boiler test in a couple of weeks..

Rheidol's boiler has been re-tubed and we are expecting delivery imminently.. The loco should be back up and running very soon.

Rheidol's boiler is currently off site being re-tubed.
